Hidden Place

This is my final piece created at Gnomon before I graduate. This time, I worked off a concept created by the wonderful Alex Vede, whose concepts always evoke such a sense of wonder and adventure. You can find the concept I worked off of here:

I wanted my last piece at school to be a love letter to 2D artwork with bold shapes, scratchy lines and colors that pop, because that's the kind of stuff I really love. Absolutely all elements here are 3D geometry except for the screen-tone effects, which were added in comp. My favorite part about translating this concept into 3D was surprisingly the most tedious task of them all, placing all of the line-work geo by hand. Each of them were placed with a lot of thought, care, and precision to try and keep that sense of life and energy seen in Alex's style.

As always, thank you to my Demo Reel instructor, Miguel Ortega, for his guidance on this project. This piece was especially challenging from a compositing perspective, but after some hours of finding our way, I think we landed on something that looks pretty cool. Thank you also to my Maya Modules instructor, Jackson Lukas, who introduced me to grooming workflows for Houdini and Yeti this term.

I am responsible for all aspects of this piece other than the concept.
